Emerging Technologies in Surveillance

As a matter of necessity, surveillance systems need to constantly evolve in order to keep pace with the growing sophistication of security threats. To this end it is important to integrate the latest technologies into your surveillance system. In today’s blog we will be looking at some of the exciting emerging technologies in surveillance.

Machine Learning and AI

Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are one of the most exciting emerging technologies in video surveillance. These technologies allow security cameras to perform real time video analysis to identify potential threats. It will also enable surveillance systems to become “smarter” over time, learning from past data to be able to recognize real threats more accurately and reduce false alarms.

Smart Devices and The Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) or Smart Devices allow for multiple security systems, including video surveillance, to be combined into a security ecosystem that shares information and data between security devices rather than each device operating independently. This can allow data from one device to affect another, an example of this being that when a security sensor in the network is tripped the video surveillance system will start recording or on-site security staff will be notified, allowing for much faster response times.

Cloud Based Systems

Cloud Based Security Systems allow for more extensive security solutions to be implemented on smaller and smaller scales as there is no longer a need for things like on-site data centers to store surveillance and analytical data. Cloud-based systems also allow for easier and real time access to surveillance feeds via apps. This technology also reduces the likelihood of data loss as all data is securely backed up on the cloud.

Cyber Security

With more and more security devices becoming connected, cyber security is becoming more and more important. Any device that connects to the internet is vulnerable to cyber-attack which can lead to the entire system being compromised. Users will need to integrate cybersecurity measures with their other systems to prevent these attacks from causing damage. These measures include things like regular updates to the system’s security features, proper encryption protocols to protect passwords and regular monitoring for any suspicious activity related to the system.
